If you have a Chevy Spark and get a Code 82 displayed on the dashboard, it is a notification that it is time to change the oil.
It is not an emergency, and the vehicle will continue to operate, but the oil should be replaced as soon as convenient.
What is a Chevy Spark Code 82?
The code 82 message comes on between oil changes every 7,500 miles to remind the owner to get the oil and filter replaced.
If you recently had the oil changed, the service attendant likely forgot to reset the message.
The vehicle can not tell if the oil is good or bad but uses mileage driven to send out the code.
The oil should be changed and the light reset, which will come on again after another 7500 miles has been driven.
How To Reset a Chevy Spark Code 82
- On the right side of the dashboard, press the Menu button.
- Press the Menu button or arrows until Reset is displayed.
- Press and hold down the Set & Clear button until it reaches 100%.

How is a Code 82 in a Chevy Spark Fixed?
Code 82 is fixed by having the oil changed and resetting the reminder message.
The message can be reset without changing the oil, but the oil should be changed out since driving with dirty oil can cause wear on an engine.
Regular engine maintenance, such as oil changes, helps an engine and is necessary for the vehicle to last for many miles.
Is it Safe to Drive with a Chevy Spark Code 82?
Yes, it is safe to drive the vehicle, but it is time to get an oil change.
Operating any car with old dirty oil puts added wear and tear on a vehicle shorting its life span.
Regularly changing the oil is a part of maintenance that should be done as soon as possible when the code 82 message appears.
If you own a Chevy Spark and a code 82 message cones on it is only a reminder to get the oil changed.
There is no need to go to a shop immediately but as soon as possible over the next week or so is a good idea.
Driving any vehicle with old oil shortens the life of the engine, which is why changing the oil should be a part of regular maintenance.
It is not an emergency, though, and should not be a concern as the car will continue to work fine.
The message can be reset by using the button to the right of the dashboard, mainly the menu and clear buttons.
