Ford 2.3L EcoBoost Engine Firing Order, Cylinder Location, Bank-1 and Bank-2

The Ford 2.3L EcoBoost 4-cylinder is a popular turbo inline-4 and it was used from 2015 to 2026.

This engine can be mounted transverse (sideways) or longitudinal (straight).

Cylinder numbering starts in a different place depending on the mount, so match the layout for your vehicle before swapping coils.

The coil and injector numbering is the same as the cylinder numbering. Coil 1 and injector 1 are both cylinder 1.

Passenger Side to Driver Side

When the 2.3L EcoBoost is mounted sideways, cylinder numbering starts on the passenger side at 1, then 2, 3, and 4 toward the driver side. 2016-2019 Explorer, Lincoln MKC, Lincoln Corsair, Focus RS, and Focus ST use this sideways mount.

Front of Engine

When the 2.3L EcoBoost is mounted straight, cylinder numbering starts at the front of the engine at 1, then 2, 3, and 4 toward the firewall. 2020-2024 Explorer, Mustang, Ranger, Bronco, and Everest use this straight mount.

To find bank one on a V engine, locate cylinder number one. That side is bank one. The other side is bank two.

The 2.3L EcoBoost is an inline-4, and all four cylinders are Bank 1.

This engine has no Bank 2.
