How To Check and Add Power Steering Fluid Passat 1998 – 2005 ALL
Checking the power steering fluid on a 1998 – 2005 VW Passat is not difficult and falls in the do-it-yourself category.

A special type of steering fluid is needed so be sure not to use any other fluid type.

After reading online and asking around I found the type used is called Pentosin Power Steering Fluid 140516.

Below is how I check and fill the power steering fluid on a 1998 – 2005 VW Passat.

How To Check the Power Steering Fluid Passat (1998 – 2005)

  1. Open the hood and locate the Power Steering reservoir on the driver side.

    It has a green cap.

  3. Unscrew the cap by turning it Counter clockwise.

  5. Wipe the dip stick insert it into the reservoir and check the level.

    It will have Max and Min with the fluid needing to be in-between the lines.

  1. Be sure to have the correct power steering fluid.

  3. Pour the fluid slowly into the reservoir. Pour in small amounts and check the dip stick as to not overfill it.

    Once the fluid level is in with-in the Max and Min lines close the cap.
