Replacing the headlight bulb on a 2007-2016 Toyota Highlander is an easy task that falls in the DIY category.

Toyota Highlander High Beam Bulb Type
- 2001-2007 and 2011-2016 Toyota Highlander: 9005
- 2008-2010 Toyota Highlander: H4 (9003), one bulb for low and high beam
Toyota Highlander Low Beam Bulb Type
- 2001-2007 Toyota Highlander: 9006
- 2008-2010 Toyota Highlander: H4 (9003), one bulb for low and high beam
- 2011-2016 Toyota Highlander: H11
Note: Replace the bulbs in pairs because the bulb on the other side has the same hours on it.
No tools are needed when replacing the headlight bulb.
Tools are only needed if there is corrosion on the vehicle.
How to Replace Headlight Bulb (2007-2016) Toyota Highlander
Note: The steps and photos below are from a 2008-2010 Highlander with one H4 bulb for low and high beam.
On 2011-2016 models press the tab on the plug, turn the H11 or 9005 bulb a quarter turn counterclockwise and pull it straight out.
Those bulbs have no rubber boot or wire clip.
Turn the headlights off and let the bulbs cool for a few minutes before you start.
- Open the hood and locate the bulb behind the headlight assembly.
- Unplug the electrical connector.
- Remove the rubber water seal boot.
- Remove the clip holding the bulb in place by pushing down and pushing it to the side. (Tip: Do not unscrew the Phillips screw.)
- Remove the head light bulb which will pull out.
- Insert the new Bulb.
- Reattach the water proof rubber boot.
- Attach the electrical plug and test the light.
Note: Check the headlight aim on a wall or garage door after the new bulbs are in.
